King's College London 'Studies' Videos

Making degree courses engaging and highlighting their academic outcomes can often be routine, but we approached this King’s College London brief differently - delivering a dynamic, fast-paced, voice over led visual experience.

Utilising a combination of stock footage and imagery along with considered animated typographic design really set these videos apart from the rest. We recorded real voices as professional audio recordings as well as repurposing comments from presentations to use as the narratives. The success of the War Studies video led to a number of courses adopting this promo style.

War Studies

The challenge with this inaugural video was to reshape the narrative surrounding the perception of ‘War Studies.’ The course explores the broader phenomenon of war and its impact.

We recorded alumni to narrate the purpose and then edited their answers to create a very visual video that plays with typography and sound design. The fast-paced and flowing nature of the video delivers a lot of information in short time, keeping the viewer engaged.

Geography

The tremendous success of the War Studies video led us to create two further videos for King’s Geography courses—both Post-Grad and Under-Grad. By capturing students speaking genuinely about the courses, we generated excitement that resonated with the vibrant visuals and animated typography.

Additionally, we produced two edited square versions for social media. This video won Gold at the 2023 EVCOM London Live & Film Awards.

Biological Disinformation

The approach for the Biological Disinformation series differed slightly, requiring an on-camera speaker. We recorded the presenter on campus against a backdrop, using an autocue to deliver the lengthy scripts.

This series included five two-minute videos and one 30-second video, which focused less on visuals and more on typography, combining prominent news clippings.

China Lau Institute

The Law Institute aims to deepen the understanding of China’s socio-political landscape by exploring a wide range of subjects that have a wider global impact.

We applied the visual style we developed for previous studies videos, repurposing existing audio recordings but transforming them into a new narrative, and enhanced it with mostly free stock footage.
